On Saturday, November 30th, Pedaal was host to the first Brompton G-Line launch in Canada. It was a cold wintry day, but over fifty people showed up to check out the bike, meet other Bromptoneers, and, of course, test out the G-Line! Shadowing the riders were Heather and Pier from Bromptoning who mic’d up our riders and recorded their response. (Video is coming soon!). Between test rides people enjoyed a free hot beverage, compared notes with others, or spent time folding the bike and analyzing all the new details. The general consensus was that Brompton hit this one out of the park. It may look like a Brompton, it may fold like a Brompton, but the G-Line is an entirely new ballgame.
Being so busy, we could only allow ten minute per test ride; so it was pretty exciting to see the big smiles as our test-riders returned. This really is a profoundly well designed product. If ten minutes puts a smile on your face, imagine a longer test ride. That’s why you can test our G-Line anytime just by booking an appointment here. Feeling like it’s getting too cold? Check out our friends Bromptoning, who took the G-Line out for a test ride and My Other Bike is a Bike. Both took the bike to some gravel – even a BMX circuit! – and were entirely convinced that the G-Line is revolutionary stuff.
Big On Stability
We’ve offered more G-Line test rides than any retailer in North America, and we’ve been collecting some great feedback. What we hear the most after each test ride is just how stable the G-Line is. Surely this has to do with the wider tires. Indeed, the G-Lines tires are about 40% wider than the standard 16″ wheeled Brompton. But, what isn’t so obvious is the wheelbase. Wheelbase is the distance from front axle to rear axle and, combined with wider tires, gives the bike its real stability. Many Brompton super-fans know that the standard 16″ Brompton wheelbase is already longer than many full-size bikes. This, in many ways is the Brompton engineering genius: to build a bike that unfolds to something long and stable, yet folds to something tiny and transportable. But, the G-Line takes this to the next level.
The G-Line has an extraordinarily long wheelbase; longer than many touring bikes. (Touring bikes are the kind of bikes people cover with bags and ride across the country with). But, if touring bikes are famous for their stability, they are not famous for their nimbleness. But, the G-Line is nimble. Very nimble! The 20″ wheels have the same rapid acceleration and nimbleness as the 16″ wheeled Brompton, but they roll noticeably faster. And, of course, the G-Line folds up exactly like the original Brompton. Super easy, super fast; just click-click-bang. All in all, it’s one heck of a game-changing design from a company famous for their no-nonsense engineering.
Pedaal x Atwater
Also launched at the event was the Pedaal x Atwater collaboration. We felt Atwater represented the G-Line perfectly. Based in Montreal, Atwater is a big-city brand whose bags are seen used by bike messengers and commuters. At the same time, Atwater builds some of the finest bags for gravel cycling or “bike-packing” out there. This fits the G-Line’s mandate of chic city transportation that still takes you far outside the city.
The G-Line Atwater Tote is that perfect blend of city bag and adventure bag; great for shopping and great for camp supplies too. The first forty people to buy a G-Line from Pedaal will get an Atwater bag for free! You even get to choose the colour!
Try before you buy!
We believe the G-Line is truly revolutionary – the perfect Canadian bike! – so we made a point of flying to the UK and picking up our own model. That means that if you’re in Southern Ontario, you can test it anytime. And, you should! If you want to give the G-Line a try, you can do that here.
Ready to place a deposit? Terrific! We make it risk free. We charge a $500 deposit and this deposit is refundable or exchangeable even after the bike arrives. We recently hosted Bromptons North American CEO and were promised that all G-Lines Pedaal sells are G-Lines that will be fulfilled in 2025. If you have any questions about the deposit, please do not hesitate to email info@pedaal.com. If you’re ready to place the deposit you can do that here!
A big thanks to the very talented Kevin Gebhardt for the amazing photography!
