We’ve mentioned before that the Toronto Brompton Meetup chapter will find any reason to go on a group ride together; including obscure phases of the moon! Led by the one and only Janet-Joy Wilson and often meeting at Pedaal, these rides are a great way to meet some really fun people. Inspired by the Bromptoberfest ride that happens in New York, this ride was BrompTOberfest, emphasizing, of course, the TO in Toronto. The ride began with a folding contest at Pedaal and proceeded to check out German heritage throughout Toronto. It ended, of course, with some great German food.
Want to know where the ride went?
1. Festival Walkway by environmental sculptor Reinhard Reitzenstein. The bronze vines are wrapped around to create a calming canopy effect overhead. The shape of the stainless steel arms are derived from the flight feather tips of a bird’s wing. At night, light patterns of leaves are projected onto the walkway to create the feeling of walking in the moonlight.
2. Toronto Man by celebrated German artist Stephan Balkenhol A 25-foot-tall sculpture of a man cradling a condo, standing on multi-coloured cubes. And yes, there were TWO dachshunds walking by on our German public art tour!
3. Mural by Street artist Justus Becker aka COR from Frankfurt. StART 2019 Mural Exchange project with local artists Alexander Bacon, Quentin Rockford, Christina Mazzulla, and Kyla Buium.
🥙 So much food for thought we then picked up food at German Döner Kebab on Queen St W and continued the conversation with a picnic in Grange Park.
Make sure to join the Brompton Meetup group! Everyone is welcome – no Brompton required!
