The Inuktitut language has at least a dozen words for snow, each capturing a different personality of winter’s ever-shifting terrain. Qanik is the soft, fresh stuff. Sitilluqaaq forms stubborn, wind-sculpted drifts. The best snow for riding? That would be illusaq—firm, packed, and ready for action. But on February 22nd, for our Brompton G-Line Snow Day, we got a dose of quiasuqaq, that re-frozen crust that crumbles under your tires, sending you sinking.

Even so, the G-Line held its own, carving its way down the old Christie Pits quarry. Squirrelly? Absolutely. But we expected that. And speaking of squirrelly, between runs, we warmed up with hot chocolate and coffee, joined by an actual squirrel! A fitting mascot? More than that. A perfect metaphor.
