, weFor just under a year, Pedaal has been making waves in Toronto’s coffee and cycling scene – and our friends at BlogTO have taken notice! As a Brompton and Bullitt bike dealer, and a specialty coffee shop, we’ve spent the past year turning our dream into reality. Whether it’s city cyclists looking for a gridlock solution, families testing out cargo bikes, or home brewers hunting for rare coffee beans, we’ve built a meeting spot that we hope gives a boost to a neighbourhood that we live in and love. Thanks to Phoebe Knight and Fareen Karim from BlogTO for the nice words and great pictures!

Pedaal: A Year in Motion

From day one, we wanted Pedaal to be more than just a shop – we wanted it to be a community hub. The article highlights many of the events that made our first year so special, but lordy…. it’s worth looking back on just how much we packed in! We hosted countless community rides and were even the launch partner for the revolutionary new Brompton G-Line.

We welcomed Juliet Scott-Croxford, CEO of Brompton USA, and took her on a ride through Toronto’s bike lanes. And, we didn’t just stick to bikes either – we hosted book launches, a fashion mixer, live music, and the list goes on! Pedaal has been a great way for us to expand our own horizons, and we want to keep on doing that!

Pedaaling Progress: Shaping the Future of Urban Cycling

But events are just one piece of the puzzle. A huge part of what makes Pedaal special is our commitment to thought leadership in the cycling world. We’ve used our platform to push for continuing change, whether it’s advocating for Dutch-style cycling legislation, expanding cyclelogistics in Canada, or diving into the impact of Trump’s tariffs on bike buyers (and how buying from Canada’s EU and UK partners helps solve our gridlock).

We’re always looking at what’s next – whether it’s the best European cycling innovations or importing city-friendly bike solutions that will help Toronto grow into a world-class cycling city. Our voice has been part of shaping the conversation around urban mobility, and that’s something we’re proud to keep building on.

Powered by Community: A Heartfelt Thank You

Of course, none of this would have been possible without our community. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way – Pier and Heather from Bromptoning, Tyler from My Other Bike is a Bike, the Bike Brigade, the Brompton Meetup and Facebook Group, Kidical Mass, and the entire cargo bike scene of Toronto.

Special shoutout to Janet Joy Wilson, Toronto’s official Brompton ambassador, and Juliet Scott-Croxford, CEO of Brompton USA, who supported the Pedaal concept from the day we first dreamed it up. Every person who has walked through our doors – whether to grab a coffee, test a bike, or just say hello – has helped turn this space into something greater than we ever imagined.

Guest Roasters

Speaking of coffee, our love for beans is just as strong as our love for bikes. In the past year, we’ve become not just a great café, but a go-to destination for home brewers looking for rare and high-quality coffee. We’ve imported beans from some of the world’s best roasters – Fjord in Berlin, April in Copenhagen, and closer to home, Anchored, Traffic, Monogram, and Subtext.

Whether you’re looking for a the perfect bag of beans for your home setup or the best take-away Matcha in the city, we’ve built Pedaal to be a destination coffee shop that gives a boost to a neighbourhood we live in and love.

One Correction!

And yes—while BlogTO got most of it right, we do need to clear up one detail: FedEx delivers more by Bullitt cargo bikes than a van in 19% less time, not 90%! It was a busy day at the café when we did the interview, and somehow that number got garbled.

But the point stands—cargo bikes are proving their worth in cities, and Pedaal is here to keep pushing the movement forward. Here’s to another year of great coffee, incredible bikes, and an even stronger cycling community!
