Brompton C Line Urban – 4 Speed

The 2025 Brompton C-Line Urban is a lightweight platform that pulls out a long-standing thorn from Brompton’s side. For years Brompton has been making a two-speed bike that never sold all that well due to its inadequate gear range. Climbing monster hills became masochistic and going fast spun the gears out. With the introduction of the new MK6 rear-frame this problem has been resolved. The MK6 rear frame is wider, giving space to build out more rear cogs. That means Brompton finally has finally mastered a lightweight, minimalist solution that is remarkably capable on nearly all terrain.

With it’s wide-range four speed system, the C-Line Urban rids itself of the heavier Brompton Wide Range internal 3-speed hub that comes on the 12-speed C-Line. This makes the bike lighter if you find yourself carrying the bike up flights of stairs, or just prefer a whippier, fun-feeling bike. The gear range compares to conventionally ranged three-speed hubs – found on most city bikes throughout Europe – but without the extra weight. Like all Brompton’s, the ergonomic folding system, operable in just 20 seconds, turns the C Line Explore into a compact accessory, ideal for urban commuters and travelers alike.
